This is a Gumshoe game set in Waterdeep in the Forgotten Realms. Why? Why not?!
It's The Wire's Baltimore meets 1930's London meets The Club Dumas.
While the destruction of Candlekeep may have been horrible for the Forgotten Realms as a whole, it was pretty good for the shady book trade. Much of that trade runs through Waterdeep, formerly a shining bastion of civilization on the Sword Coast. Now, a seedy, decrepit city where the handful of noble houses suck the last bits of light and magic out of the rest of the populace, wretched Waterdeep teems with malice and dark sorcery.
You're no hero. Or Wizard. Or Cleric, for that matter. You're just an ordinary gal trying to make a decent living tracking down and selling books. Do you care where they came from? Maybe. Do you care that there are people willing to pay good coin for them? Most certainly. So you brave catacombs, back alleys, and sketchy auctions to find them, trying to avoid fireballs and face rats.
All ages welcome. No Gumshoe experience required. But a strong attachment to any Forgotten Realms sacred cows will almost certainly result in dissappointment.
