Welcome to DC Gameday
Last Minute Info for DC Gameday IX
Hope you're all looking forward to the upcoming DC Gameday weekend as I am. We've got a great array of games and GMs, and it looks like a lot of first-time attendees as well.
If, by Friday, you are not registered for a specific game, please don't come to the gameday hoping to get into a spot.
Although there are often last-minute cancellations, we don't have the space to handle additional pickup games, etc., and we can't have a crowd hanging out with nothing to do. If you didn't get into any games this time, I apologize. I hate to turn people away, but the reality is that we can only handle so many.
A couple bits of information that will make the gameday experience better for everyone:
Cancellations: If you're not going to be able to attend a game you registered for, please log in to the site, go to the Events page, and click on 'My Events'. You should be able to cancel games you won't be able to attend. There are still people on wait-lists dying to get into games.
The Venue: We're fortunate that the American Federation of Teachers lets us use their conference space for free. Please be respectful: Don't make a mess, don't wander beyond the meeting rooms, don't help yourself to food or drinks that aren't yours, keep the noise levels tolerable and the language PG13. Also, if you are bringing kids, you are responsible for watching them and keeping them entertained.
Parking: There is no parking in the garage beneath the AFT building. There are several paid parking lots in the area and at various nearby hotels; specifically there is a Colonial Parking garage near the intersection of N. Capitol Street and E Street NW, which is open on Saturdays only. On-street parking is possible, although rarely available on Saturdays, but somewhat plentiful on Sundays. We recommend coming in by Metro whenever possible. The gameday location is just a couple blocks from the Union Station stop on the Red Line.
Dinner: Unfortunately, the usual spot for the Saturday night dinner, Capital City Brewing Co., has closed. We'd hoped they'd be re-opening at a new location in Union Station, but that hasn't come to pass. So, we've alerted The Dubliner to expect 50+ people around 8ish on Saturday night. It's on the same block as the gameday site. This is the first time we've been there, so we don't what to expect in terms of accommodations and service. With that in mind, *please* remember to try and bring cash, small bills (let's avoid the 'everyone drops a $20 on the table' routine) and in general be appreciative of the effort the restaurant goes through trying to deal with serving such a large group.
